Welcome, all you need to know about The Meridian Message

Hi, and welcome to The Meridian Message, a news site reporting on events and news in Meridian, a neighborhood in Bellingham, Wa. Primarily commercial and industrial, the Meridian neighborhood countless stores essential to the Bellingham economy. This website will be posting longer news stories and reports, as well as shorter blog pieces, weekly. I will constantly be walking around the Meridian neighborhood the next couple months, and will make sure to cover all the key events and report all the important news pertaining the neighborhood on The Meridian Message. Christ the King's Community Life

The most recent piece that I’ve written was about the Band of Brothers for Christ, which is based in the Meridian neighborhood at Christ the King Church. As I was walking around before the meeting began, and afterwards, I noticed that the fairly large church was bustling full of people who had nothing to do with Band of Brother’s for Christ.

This got me thinking. It was a late Tuesday night, and there were a good amount of people at the Meridian church, it must be very involved with the community. I did some research on the website, and saw a calendar of events at the local church, and many days were multiple events. Upon further research, they have created a program called Community Life. According to the Christ the King Church website, Community Life is a program of smaller volunteer-led organized communities meeting outside of the church, based on a common ground.

One of the categories for Community Life is Neighborhoods. According to the website, Meridian is one of the neighborhoods that does not currently have a Community Life group. I’m writing this as a “how-to,” if you are interested in creating a community group. Those with the desire to bring Community Life into the Meridian neighborhood should contact Derek Archer at dereka@ctkbellingham.com, from the church, and he will help you set up your community life.

The Christ the King Church website describes Community Life as an easier way for people to connect with others in a more natural and organic way.

Host Your Own Pajama Drive

Though the donations of new pajamas and packaged socks and underwear brought in to the Meridian neighborhood Sleep Country by the public are vital and drive the Sleep Country Foster Kids Pajama Drive, customized Pajama Drives hosted by residents can play bring in a good amount of help, according to the Sleep Country Foster Kids official website.

Hosting your own Pajama Drive could reach an audience the mattress store wasn’t able to, therefore helping more foster kids.

Spread the word of your dive through email and social network sites like Facebook in order to communicate with your family and friends. In fact, Sleep Country does the hard part by providing sample emails and Facebook posts for you to use, and has posters for the drive available.

If your donation is too large to bring to the Sleep Country store, located at 4229 Meridian Street, Bellingham, Wa, you can call the store (360-756-1214) and they will send a truck to come pick it up for you.

If all else fails, you can donate money online. You can be part of your community and help foster children in the Bellingham area and Whatcom County by hosting your own pajama donation drive.
